The Butterfly-Maker
As a child growing up Charles Joseph Serna often felt as though he was a lowly worm because of the sexual, physical, and emotional abuse he endured from family members and others. His life story reads as it is a gripping novel filled with unbelievable twists and turns. His dysfunctional family led him into drug and alcohol abuse; this set the stage to drag him down further. He eventually served a prison term that lasted nearly 14 long years. This, too, carried him to the brink of despair.
Along the way God tried to speak to him, but Charles had trouble listening, believing, and following. Then one day the Lord changed him and helped him forgive his abusers and others who contributed to his miserable lifestyle. This turned his seething anger into victory in Jesus. By the grace of God the lowly worm was transformed into a beautiful butterfly—a reflection of God's glory.
